Jo Ann Richey Alewine, 82, of Anderson, SC, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at her residence.
Born on May 1, 1936 in Anderson, SC; she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elsie Richey and was widowed by her first husband, Lawrence A. Campbell, Sr., and her second husband, William U. Alewine.
In addition to her parents and husband’s; Jo Ann was also predeceased by two children: Joseph Campbell and Yvonne (Bonnie) Emery; one grandchild, Christina House; six brothers; and one sister.
Jo Ann attended Girls High and business college in Anderson. For more than 30 years, she worked for Belk, where she led human resources. Jo was a caring soul, who unconditionally loved and accepted everyone, especially her beloved family. She was a shelter during the storm for her children and grandchildren, and she was a devoted dog-lover and rescuer. Her last months were daily spent, loving the company of her daughter, Angela, and constantly surrounded by the love of her family.
Jo Ann is survived by her children: Francine Dyer and her husband, Doyle, of Easley; Debra Yates and her husband, Howard, of Eustis, Florida; Laura Williams and her husband, Rick, of Lancaster; Lawrence Campbell and his wife, Gail, of Westminster; and Angela Bowen and her husband, Bobby, of Anderson; four brothers: Calvin Richey of Anderson, Jimmy and Lewis Richey of Belton, and Jerry Richey of Marion, NC; and three sisters: Betty Gray, Joyce Wentzky and Mary Carter all of Anderson.
She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren: Stacy Walsh and her husband, Kevin, of West Hartford, Connecticut and their children Will, Seamus and Cady; Melissa Brown, of Easley, and her children Josh, Allie and Shawn (and Allie’s children, Aubree and Brantley); Crystal Robertson-Keele, and her husband, Tim, of Ocala, Florida, and their son, Parker; Suzanne Shirley of Grand Island, Florida and her children Alexis, Zoey and Nathan; John Shirley of Grand Island, Florida and his son, John Lennon; James House of Eustis, Florida, and his son, Devin; Jessica Gunnells and her husband, Michael, of Anderson, and their children, Caleb and Grayson; Sarah Campbell of Anderson and her children, Emilly, Anna and Willie; Heather Campbell of Anderson; Chelsea Bowen of Columbia; Jeremy Bowen of Greenville; Wesley Black and his wife Megan, of Westminster, and their daughters Ruby and Brooks; Cory Black and his wife Evie, of Westminster, and their daughter Chaily.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Sosebee Mortuary, South Chapel, at 1pm officiated by Jimmy Richey. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday at the Mortuary from 11:30am to 1pm.
