Ray Crocker

August 23, 1928 - December 13, 2018

U.S. Veteran

Ray Crocker was born on August 23, 1928, in Henderson, Texas. He was raised in the oil fields of east Texas before playing football at Southern Methodist University. On his 18th birthday, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in an effort to join his brother Harold who was fighting in the Pacific. Following his military service, he returned to Texas and began a long career in sales. During retirement, Ray moved to South Carolina, where he met and married, Martha Arnold. He spent his last years under the loving care of the staff and residents of Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.
Known as “Datz” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he selflessly served his family as a leader and provider. Datz had a quiet strength and a quick wit. He was faithful in every task, always optimistic, and met no strangers. If you met Datz, you had a friend. He served his Lord Jesus Christ as a faithful servant and Gideon.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Harold, his wife of 43 years Dorotha Crocker, and four sons Ray Crocker, Jr., Mike Marrs, Richard Marrs, and Dwayne Marrs, and daughter-in-law Marsha Marrs.

He is also survived by Sandra Stamps (Jerry), JoBeth Tilley (Anthony) and grandchildren Jennifer Mogonye (Greg), Ryan Marrs, Cory Marrs, Brad Marrs (Laura), Tracy Austin (Daniel), John Michael Marrs, Lacy Papadakis (Zach), Heather Bentley (Devin), Cacy Rice (Adam), Matthew Marrs (Courtney), Aaron Ray Crocker (Misa), Patti Scott, Joanna Wiles (Justin), Jake Tilley (Kristy), Jamie Charping, and Jesse Tilley (Tori Crocker). He is survived by 13 great-grandchildren, the extended Arnold family including, 10 great-grandchildren, who beautifully embraced and deeply loved him, as well as countless other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at MJ Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, December 20, 2018, at 1:00 pm. Pastors Jerry Gray and Tony Tilley will officiate.
