Rodney “Rod” Dean Ensley, 61, of Starr, SC passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Hospice of the Upstate, after battling cancer and pneumonia.

Born on November 12, 1956, in Jackson, MI, he was the son of the late Donald and Maxine Ensley. Rod grew up in Jackson, MI, and joined the US Navy on January 16, 1974 where he served as a Machinist on the USS Dixie. He also served at the end of the Vietnam War, and at the Naval Reserves Personnel Center in New Orleans, LA.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Rod became a tool and die maker which would remain is vocation throughout the rest of his life. Several companies had employed Rod throughout his long career, he even owned his own machine shop. However, Rod eventually came to be employed by the Electrolux Cold Technology Center, where his considerable skill set was put to use for appliance research and development.

On September 15, 1984, Rod Ensley married Bernice Susan Wells. The couple would eventually relocate to the south, living in Georgia, but finally taking up residence in Anderson, SC. Rod and Susan were constant companions. They enjoyed each other’s company as well as riding motorcycles, cooking, and taking trips together.

Rod is survived by his loving wife, Susan, and also leaves behind a multitude of friends and colleagues who will sorely miss him.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 4pm, at Sosebee Mortuary, South Chapel, with Military Rites. Visitation will be held at the South Chapel prior to the service on Saturday, from 2pm-4pm.

The family will be at the home.
