Ruby Vera Wilbanks Shaw, 80, of Anderson, SC, wife of John Franklin Shaw, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 after a long illness surrounded by her loving family.

Born on April 28, 1936 in Madison (Oconee County), SC; she was one of 15 children born to the late E.J. and Bessie Ramey Wilbanks. Ruby was of the Baptist faith and a longtime member of Salem Baptist Church. She worked at the Singer Plant for many years and retired from the Anderson Memorial Hospital.

Ruby loved gardening and could be found out in the yard tending to her many flowering plants until her health declined. Although tired and exhausted from her illness, she would still try to go outside and tend to her plants. This is one of the things she missed most during her health decline.

In addition to her husband of 64 years; she is also survived by those whom she adored, her children: Susan Gilham (Buddy), Mike (Teresa), Bucky (Sherry), and James (Angela) Shaw; nine grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; longtime caring friend, Caroline Graham; sister, Betty Shank of Lawrenceville, IL; and brother, Earl Wilbanks (Peggy).

In addition to her parents, she is also predeceased by her 12 siblings, brothers: Frank, Lawrence, Ralph, Cecil, Roscoe, Berri, and Rollie Wilbanks; and sisters: Grace McAlister, Loma Taylor Rholetter, Ollie Bell Dunn, Nellie Hayes, and Ruth Tiller.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Sosebee Mortuary, South Chapel, from 6pm – 8pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
