Ralph “Alton” Carnes, 78, of Iva, SC passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, May 2, 2016 at his home.
He was the son of the late J.C. and Helen Carnes of Hartwell, Ga and was the oldest of 7 siblings. He attended Faith Tabernacle in Anderson, SC and when he was unable to attend during his shut-in days, he enjoyed the online ministry of Revealed Word Tabernacle in Lincolnton, NC.
Alton married the love of his life, Patsy Compton Carnes on August 14, 1957. They enjoyed 58 wonderful years together and were blessed with 3 sons: Ralph (Lisa), Troy (Angel) and Adam Carnes.
In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many of his sons friends that considered him a father.
Alton owned his own garage where he worked on and sold cars most of his life. His passion was stock-car racing. He won many races and track championships as a car owner. He was greatly loved and will be missed.
A celebration of Alton’s life will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 3pm at Sosebee Mortuary Iva Chapel and will be officiated by George Patchias, Pastor Samuel Dixon of Faith Tabernacle in Anderson, and Pastor Charles Holmes Jr of Revealed Word Tabernacle in Lincolnton, NC. Burial will follow at Southlawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held prior to the service at the mortuary from 1pm to 3pm.
