William Alfred Hettler February 7, 1938 - September 20, 2016

William (Bill) Alfred Hettler, 78, of Anderson, passed away on 20 September 2016.

William is survived by his wife, Sandra Ann (Conlon)Hettler: son David and his wife Vicky and grandchildren: Deseree and Kaleb Boatwright; son Duane and his ex-wife Betsy, and grandchildren Luke and Lauren Hettler; and daughter Dawn, and grandchildren James and Brett Dykes; niece and nephew Susann and James Saxhaug.

The son of Albert and Pauline Hettler, Bill was born in Peoria, Illinois, on February 7, 1938, where he grew up with his sister Gertrude (deceased) and graduated high school.

Once he graduated, Bill joined the U.S. Air Force as a Flight Service Specialist, after four years of service, he joined the Federal Aviation Administration, in Chicago, Illinois, where he met Sandra Ann Conlon. In 1961,  the two married and relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada and later Denver, Colorado.

In the following years, the couple and their three kids moved to Wyoming, Michigan, and Minnesota, finally arriving in South Carolina after retiring from government service.  In an effort to keep busy, Bill left retirement to join NCR, and then AFCO, doing quality inspection.   After 10 years working with AFCO, Bill finally retired.

Bill was an avid golfer, and scored his first and only Hole-in-One at the Southern Oaks golf course in Anderson.  Bill was also an avid hockey fan, and became a season ticket holder and Booster club supporter of the Greenville Growl.  Bill became a well known face around the area due to his outgoing personality and generosity with family, friends, and basically anyone he met.  Well known to family and friends, was his honesty, his outrageous sense of humor, openness to helping those in need, and his love for family and friends.

The family invites you to join them for a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at 2:00 pm, at the Sosebee Mortuary Downtown Chapel, 401 North Main Street, Anderson, SC, 29621.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation to the American Heart Association or ALS Association be made in his memory.

The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory Downtown Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
