Ella Grace Gentry, born on June 3, 1943, in Abbeville County, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on December 24, 2025, in Iva, South Carolina. She was 82 years old.
Grace was the daughter of the late Catherine and Ellis “Buck” Whitman. She was the wife of the late Clifton Gentry, Jr.
Throughout her working life, Grace contributed to her community through her roles in textile mills and as a restaurant cook. Her time spent in these professions reflected her strong work ethic and commitment to providing for her family. She found joy in preparing meals that brought people together—a passion that remained with her throughout her life. She loved her animals and enjoyed cooking for them as well.
Grace was a woman of faith who regularly attended church with her family until her health began to decline. She loved her family unconditionally and was affectionately known as “Nannie Grace” by family and friends.
She is survived by her children: Harold “Doodle” Gentry (Martha), Bobby Gentry (Lisa), Samantha Bowman, and Tony Gentry; siblings: Sarah Martin (Tommy), Charlotte White (James), Ludeal Sanders, and Mary Aderhold.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her children Edward Gentry and Sandra Bratcher and her brother Harold Whitman.
Her legacy continues through the lives of her children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Per her request, no services will be held.
The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.

Always strong hearted, faithful to God and was the backbone of the family, I love you, Aunt Grace and I know you are in Heaven looking down and still protecting us!!
