June 22, 2026 at 5:39 pmI MET AL ABOARD THE USS HOLAND IN ROTA SPAIN. I’M NOT SURE WHAT SPARKED THE FRIENDSHIP BUT SOME HOW WE BECAME BEST FRIENDS. AL WORKED IN THE MACHINE SHOP AND I WORKED IN THE SHEETMETAL SHOP. BETWEEN US IF ONE NEEDED SOMETHING MADE, WE COULD MAKE IT. WE SPENT 99 PERCENT OF OUR OFF DUTY TIME TOGETHER. WE WOULD SHOP IN ROTA AND A COUPLE OF NEARBY TOWNS. ONCE WE EVEN MADE IT DOWN TO THE STRAIT OF GIBRALTAR TOOK A HYDROPLANE BOAT ACROSS THE STRAIT TO TANGIER IN MOROCCO AFRICA. THAT WAS THE BEST DAY TRIP WE HAD WHILE OVERSEAS. FOR TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN THE TOWNS, I TOLD AL WE NEEDED TO BUY US A MOTORCYCLE. WE DID AND AL ENJOYED IT SO MUCH, HE BOUGHT HIM A BIGGER ONE. AL ALWAYS WATCHED MY BACK AND I WATCHED HIS. WE WERE ALWAYS THERE FOR ONE ANOTHER. AL CAME TO VISIT WHEN I WAS DISCHARGED AND HE WAS STATIONED IN CT. LINDA (MY WIFE) AND I INTRODUCED HIM TO HER SISTER. TO MAKE THIS STORY SHORT, HE ENDED UP BEING MY BROTHER-IN-LAW AND DAVID AND TIM MY NEPHEWS. I WILL ALWAYS CHERISH OUR FRIENDSHIP AND NEVER FORGET THE THINGS WE TAUGHT EACH OTHER. MY SINCERE CONDOLENCES TO HIS FAMILY. WE HAVE LOST A GREAT MAN ON THE EARTH.
