Brenda Blackwell, 80, of Starr SC, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Callie and John Rainey Hospice House.
Born in Anderson, SC, on February 21, 1945, she was the daughter of the late R.E. Fleming and Janie Stone. She was the wife of 33 years to the late John Dock Blackwell. Brenda loved her church, her church family and was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple in Iva, SC; she was previously employed by Oxford Industries and Blair Mill both in Belton, SC. She cared deeply for her family and was a caring, dedicated wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt, and friend.
She is survived by her children: Matthew Shaw (Angie), Darlene Shaw (Mike), April Blackwell Hembree (Keith), Sonya Capps, Dawn Crosby and Brian Blackwell (Candice); sister: Merlene Taylor; grandchildren: Brandi Riccetelli (Matt), Brianna Clamp (Andrew), Scott Johnson (Jenny), Marissa Shaw, Alec Shaw, DeAnna Blackwell, Kerrigan Campbell, Olivia-Mae Capps, Triston Capps (Jessica), Emily Crosby, Kayla Hembree, Savannah Richardson (Will), Daniel Hembree (Michaela), Kayli Raines, Kendall Blackwell, Mason Blackwell, and Parker Blackwell, as well as 22 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by a son, Tony Shaw and a brother, Tony Fleming.
A funeral service will be held at Gethsemane Baptist Temple on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 2pm with Pastor Sam Duncan officiating. A private burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held prior to the service on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at the church from 1pm to 2pm.
The family will be at their respective homes.
The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
