Arthur David “Sonny” Irby, 85, of Anderson SC, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Callie and John Rainey Hospice House.
Sonny was born on July 5, 1940, in Anderson, SC, to the late William and Jane Simmons Irby. He was married for 35 years to the late Marilyn Labenz Irby. Sonny was a US Army veteran, attended Gethsemane Baptist Temple and dedicated 42 years to Darby Electric. He enjoyed cruising to Alaska with his children, loved dancing, daylilies and his family.
He is survived by his sons: Harold David Irby (Deanna) and William Irby (Sharon); sisters: Joyce Coats (James) and Libby King (Danny); grandchildren: Dee Self (Jon), Adam Daniel Irby, Mary Grace Banister (Andrew), Katie Beth Irby, Thomas Morgan (Candice) and Angel Rice (Joe) and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is predeceased by a daughter: Mary Jane Morgan and a granddaughter: Hannah Rice.
A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory with Pastor Sam Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at New Silverbrook Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by the Campbell Patriots.
Visitation will take place prior to the service at the Mortuary on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 from 12pm to 1pm, prior to the service.
The family will be at their respective homes.
The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
