Amos Eugene Irwin peacefully passed away on August 30, 2026, at the Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson, South Carolina. He was born on April 5, 1946, in Danville, Virgina, to the late Richard John Irwin, Jr., and Amelia Myers Irwin.
A graduate of George Washington High School in 1964, Amos pursued his passion for business and earned a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from Virginia Tech in 1968. Shortly after, he honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps, a testament to his commitment and patriotism.
Amos dedicated his professional life to Belk Retail Stores, where he worked as an accountant until retirement. Beyond his career, Amos found joy in playing golf and cheering for Virginia Tech football (go Hokies!). He was a member of the Hejaz Shriners of Greenville, South Carolina, and loved volunteering at the Shriners Hospital for Children until his death declined. His selfless service and generous spirit touched countless lives.
Amos was predeceased by his wife of 21 years, Carolyn Irwin, and his sister, Mary Ellen Switzer. His legacy is continued by his daughters, Jennifer Irwin Richardson and her husband David, and Courtney Irwin Dalton. He is also survived by his siblings, Richard John Irwin and his wife Elizabeth, Sadie Irwin Johnson and her husband Winfrey, and Dorothy Irwin Pigott and her husband Jesse. Amos was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren, Madison Edwards and her husband Colby, Savannah Sparks and her husband Tyler, Holland Dalton, and Denver Dalton and five great-grandchildren, McKinley Lewis, Bowen Sparks, Selah Sparks, Beckett Edwards, and Ainsley Edwards.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Richard M. Campbell Veteran Nursing Home and Patriot Healthcare Hospice for their exceptional dedication and compassionate care provided to Amos in his final days.
No formal service will be held, but rather the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Greenville, South Carolina, an organization close to his heart.
