David Dwight Norris passed away peacefully on September 14, 2026, at AnMed Hospital following his battle with cancer.
David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, and Vietnam veteran. He proudly served his country from 1967 to 1971.
A talented welder, David took great pride in his work. He was also an avid biker who enjoyed the freedom of the open road. Some of his family’s most treasured memories are of the time he spent camping, fishing, and watching NASCAR with his children, playing poker with his grandchildren, and simply enjoying time with the people he loved most.
Above all, David was a family man. He shared 58 loving years of marriage with his wife, Sonya Norris, and his family remained one of the greatest joys of his life.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and David Norris; his sister, Sandra Norris; and his son, Stewart Norris.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Sonya Norris; his sons, Chad Norris and his wife, Kendra, and Jeffery Norris; and his eight grandchildren, Brandi, Randon (Brittany), Nicholas, Kristin Coley (Seth), Zachary, Katlyn, Caleb McClendon, and Ashley Roby (Jacob). He also leaves behind many beloved great-grandchildren.
David is also survived by his siblings, Daniel Norris (Lynda) , Judy Moore (George), Mike Norris (Dot), Steve Norris (Tammi), Terry Norris, Jerry Norris, Tammy Cape, and Koleta Thomsen (Greg), along with many extended family members and friends who will continue to cherish his memory.
David’s memory will live on through the family he loved the times they shared together, and his years of service to his country. He will be deeply missed and remembered.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Sosebee Mortuary from 6pm to 8pm.
A graveside service will be held at MJ Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 9am with Military Rites.
The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
