Ansel Hammonds Jr., 90, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Saturday April 11, 2015 at the Rainey Hospice House.
He was the son of the late Ansel Hammonds and Annie Mae Simpson Hammonds and husband to the late Virginia Melton Hammonds.
Ansel enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 16. He served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and was one of the few living Pearl Harbor survivors. He was also a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.
He is survived by his sons: Jack E Hammonds (Montine) and Jimmie Hammonds, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, his sister and his daughter-in-law: Susan Parker Hammonds.
Funeral Services will be held at 2pm Tuesday April 14, 2015 at the Gethsemane Baptist Temple and will be officiated by Rev. Sam Duncan. Burial will follow at MJ Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 2pm prior to the service at the church.
The family will be at their respective homes.
