Benjamin “Benny” Thornton, 84, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Rainey Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Anderson, SC, on January 18, 1942, he was the son of the late Benjamin Thornton Sr and Gladys Thornton.
Benny is survived by his wife of 66 plus years, Martha C. Thornton; Daughters: Karen Brown, Cindy Dodgens (Scott), and Marie Dyar (Roger); Grandsons: Matthew Dodgens (Heather), Robert Cobb (Morgan), Adam Dodgens (Staci), Kevin Price (Ashley), Christopher Cobb (AnnaKate), and Bradley Dyar; as well as 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his Son-in-law: Ken Brown.
A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Middleton Road Baptist Church and will be officiated by Rev. Barry Davis. The family will receive friends from 2pm to 3pm, prior to the service, Monday at the Church.
The family will be at the home of Benny and Martha’s daughter, Cindy.
The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory is assisting the family with the arrangements.
