Betty Hoffman, the daughter of the late Dora Mae Kelly Alewine and late Thomas Edward Alewine, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday morning, August 1, 2025, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born and raised in South Carolina, Betty, of the Church of God faith, led a holy life of love and prayer that truly embodied the meaning of love thy neighbor as yourself. People would willingly wait in long lines to spend time with her when she was a cashier at BI-LO, not because she was fast, but because she was that much of a joy to be around. If you knew her, you knew one of the kindest, most humble, charitable, loving and devout people to ever grace the Earth. She always led with love and would pray for everyone, even those who did wrong.
This incredible woman raised five children, alongside her husband the late Roy Robert Hoffman Sr. Two of whom were her daughter, Lora Mae Edens, and her son, Roy Robert Hoffman Jr. Then once her son passed away, she assumed Legal Guardianship of his sons, her three grandbabies: Tony Lee Miller, Angel Thomas Hoffman, and Stephen Alexander Hoffman raising them into adulthood.
In addition to her daughter and the aforementioned grandbabies, she is survived by her grandson, Ryan Edens; Granddaughter, Caroline Hoffman; son-in-law Daniel Edens; and two great-granddaughters: Scarlet Edens and Addie Hoffman.
In addition to her husband, parents, and son, Mrs. Betty Hoffman was preceded in death by her brothers: Jimmy Lee Alewine and Maxie Berry Alewine; and her sister, Mary Edith Baggot.
A memorial service will be held at Living Water Church, 5 Main St, West Pelzer, SC 29669, at 3:00 P.M. EST on Friday, August 8th, 2025, officiated by Tim Register.
The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
