Butler Wayne Vaughn, 78, son of the late Butler Dock Vaughn and Lula Mae Long Vaughn, passed away on April 23, 2026, at Grand Strand Medical Center.
Wayne was born on March 5, 1948, in Danielsville and grew up in the Keowee community of Oconee County. He graduated from Walhalla High School in 1966. After retirement, he made his home in Anderson.
Wayne was a proud Vietnam War veteran who served his country in the United States Army. He was also a retired member of the South Carolina National Guard and retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
He is survived by his brother, Harris “Red” Vaughn (Sylvia) of Walhalla; brother-in-law, John “Butch” Watson of Walhalla; and by Christian Hendrix, Patsy Coe, Haley Vance, Brianna Vance, Grayson Vance, Alexis Oaks (David), Aaliyah Miller, Maggie Oaks, Wrigley Oaks, Ashley Vance, Layla Dyer, Skylinn Dyer, Lux Dyer, Phoenix Yorty, Chase Dyer, Sonya Brady, Donna Wells, and Sandra “Sandy” Vaughn of Anderson. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James Vaughn and Jackie Vaughn, and his sister, Jean Watson.
Burial services will be held at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery on June 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Disabled American Veterans.
The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
