Connie Lachen, age 74, of Easley, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023 in her home. Connie was born in Jacksonville, Florida on October 10, 1948. She was the second daughter of the late Richard Tillman Register and Rosemary Bess Register.
Connie graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1966. She worked as a nursing assistant at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and South Miami Hospital in Miami, FL.
Connie grew up and spent most of her early adulthood in South Florida. She moved to Easley in 1983. Connie decided that she wanted to further her nursing career. She went to Greenville Technical College and graduated with honors, earning her Associate Degree in Nursing.
Following her graduation from nursing school, she was offered a position in the newborn nursery at Greenville Memorial Hospital. She worked night shift on the 6th floor (newborn nursery/ mother baby unit) for over 30 years. At the time of her retirement in 2017, she had risen to the position of nurse supervisor. Many of her ‘babies’ and families that she cared for in the hospital still send Connie messages and cards to this day. Her nursing co-workers (sisters) became part of her everyday life and family.
Following her retirement, she continued to care for others. She spent many hours volunteering with United Christian Ministries of Pickens County and Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by her sons, Joshua Lachen and David Lachen. Her sister, Barbara Clark and nieces (that she considered her daughters) Susan Sabin, Cynthia Monroe, and Laura Clark. Daughter-in-law Crystal Lachen. Grandchildren Sean Amicone, Scott Amicone, Austin Blackwell, Dalton Lachen and Adam Lachen. She is predeceased by her parents, Rosemary Bess and Richard Register.
A memorial service will be held in her honor to celebrate her life on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 2 pm at St Andrews Methodist Church located at 309 Pelzer Highway in Easley, South Carolina.
The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory South Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
