Curtis Ricky Johnson October 11, 1952 - April 17, 2024

Our beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and friend, Curtis Ricky Johnson of Pelzer, South Carolina, passed away from his Earthly home into the welcoming arms of Jesus on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 1359 at the age of 71. Born in Anderson, South Carolina, on October 11, 1952, he was the son of the late James Earl and Elizabeth Irene Johnson.

Rick served our great country as a SGT in the United States Airforce from 1973-1975. After an Honorable Discharge, he attended Tri-County Technical College, earning an Associate Degree in Radio and working locally around Anderson as a Radio Announcer. He finished his career with an exceptional skillset and a wealth of knowledge as a General Electrician.

Rick had many hobbies. If you had the lucky chance to meet him, you knew he was an avid Clemson Football fan, even having his name placed on the stadium. He loved all things football, and boy, could he get rowdy, cheering with all heart, during games. Outside of loving college football, he especially loved being able to attend high school Friday Night Football games for two of his grandsons.

As a lifelong music fan, to say he loved The Allman Brothers Band would be an understatement. His music was always up, and you could often find him tapping his foot while playing along with a harmonica. He enjoyed fishing and proudly bragged about his “lifelong” fishing license when he obtained it. A hobby he took on late in life was painting. Many friends and family have said he “missed his calling.” He painted for fun to give to friends and with love, with messages on them when he sent them to his grandchildren.

He spent the last years in his favorite spot with friends who became his extended family at Jake’s One Stop Shop in Pelzer. You can walk in and find him sitting in the same spot where he would make friends with anyone. He loved telling life’s stories and making jokes with anyone who would listen. To these friends, who are too many to name, thank you for loving him as much as his family and always looking out for him.

Surviving is his daughter: Alana Elizabeth Hall (Lowell) and son: Abram Cyril Johnson (Samm); grandchildren: Jeremy, Ethan, and Emma Cotton, Korbin Hall, Issac, and Waylon Johnson. Additionally, his sister-in-law: Lucy Johnson; nephews: Ronald “Boomer” Johnson, Joshua Johnson, and Jeremiah Johnson (Melissa); great-nieces: Haley Johnson, Aleigha Craft-Johnson, and Kristin; great-nephews: Brandon Schantz, Landon, and Aldon. Finally, his love, friend, and partner, Robyn Lusk.

He was preceded in death by his loving Father: James Earl Johnson; precious Mother: Elizabeth Irene Johnson; brother: James Ronald Johnson; and niece: Tammie Johnson.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at 2 pm at Sierra Baptist Church at 2800 Waccamaw Trail, Anderson, SC. Dr. Wayne Dickard and Pastor Stanley Cole will lovingly deliver the service. He will receive a military honors burial at a later date and will be laid to rest with his mother, at his request, at Shekhinah Glory in Anderson, SC.

His daughter Alana would like to personally extend the most heartfelt gratitude to Mary A Lollis, DNP, FNP of AnMed. She fiercely loved my Dad and provided the utmost care to him over the past five years. God sends special blessings in life, and she was one of those blessings for my father and me.

The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory South Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
