Edward Gerald “Pete” Parmer, 92, of Anderson, SC passed away on March 11, 2014 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Cardington, OH; he was a Coast Guard Veteran serving in Air-Sea Rescue during World War II.  He was service manager for General Motors automobile dealerships in the New York City area.  “Pete” and “Honey Girl” were married in Elizabeth City, NC and raised their family in Valley Stream, NY.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Ray “Honey Girl” Parmer; his parents, Royal Carson Parmer and Estella Denton Parmer; sisters, Donna Parmer Sytes, Lucille Parmer Benedict, and Eileen Parmer Jenkins and a brother, Lloyd Jack Parmer.

He is survived by a son, Edward Parmer, Jr. and his wife Mary Jane of Beavercreek, OH; a daughter, Ruth Ann Kain of Crossville, TN; a daughter, Mary Ellen Parmer Hammond and her husband Warren of Anderson, SC; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at St. John’s UMC in the Chapel on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 3 pm.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 pm to 3 pm in the church parlor.

Burial of both Ed and Florence will be on at 11 am Monday, March 24, 2014 at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery, Anderson, South Carolina, with Military Honors.

The family is at the home of his daughter, Mary Ellen Parmer Hammond at 2612 East North Avenue, Anderson, SC. and they ask that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd, Anderson, SC 29621, or the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
