Gary Clark August 13, 2023

Gary Johnston Clark, 77, of Anderson, South Carolina, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family Saturday, August 13th. Gary was loved by everyone who knew him. His sense of humor, generosity, kindness, good natured competitive streak and ability to love wholeheartedly are what his loved ones will miss the most.

Gary was born in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada and moved to Anderson, SC in 1986 with his surviving wife, Brenda Marjorie (Playford). Gary, son of Gordon Clark and Frances Milner, brother of the late Wayne Clark, is survived by his sister, Deni Ida; sons, Dwayne and Lonny, and daughter, Teresa Strickland. He leaves behind many grandchildren and great grandchildren who were lucky to have him as a grandfather.

Gary never met a stranger, easily making friends wherever he went. He loved a good project and was the first at his kids’ door if they had one of their own so he could show them how it was done. He loved to play all kinds of games, probably because he always won, and spent his retirement doing what he loved most, golfing and enjoying life with his wife of over 50 years. Gary and Brenda shared a love story that was true and beautiful and clear to everyone who met them. Words cannot express how much those who loved him will miss his presence.

Arrangements will be made at a later time for family and friends to celebrate his life. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, you donate to your local heart association in his honor.

The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory South Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Gary was truly a gentleman, kind hearted, and spirited. Always with a smile and a gentle kind word. I remember when Gary saw me power washing the curbs at the heritage, he came by and said “I would love to help”. He gentle took the power washer hose and never passed it back to me. So galant. We will miss him.

It is with truly sad hearts that we say good bye to our Uncle Gary. He loved and cared for us as much as his own and even as adults we gravitated towards their home regularly when they lived in Owen Sound. It was always fun being with him and Aunt Brenda !
We will miss his infectious laugh and his incredibly strong firm hugs and of course his constant ribbing…we miss you so much RIP Uncle Gary 💜
