J.C. Bray, Jr., 85, of Anderson, SC, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, September 13, 2017, following a brief illness with cancer.

He leaves his wife of 66 years, Lois Irene Bray; his 3 sons, Steve Bray and wife, Phyllis; Keith Bray and wife, Kellie; and Stan Bray and wife, Kristal. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, and one brother, Seldon Bray.

He has three sisters that passed previously before him; Viola Cress, Elsie Cook and Dot Jackson.

Born and raised in Sandy Cross, Georgia, the son of James Clifford and Grace Bray. He has lived in Anderson, S.C. for the prior 49 years.

In his early years, Mr. Bray worked in the textile mills, where he met his wife, Irene Lois Knighton. They married on March 23,1951.

After serving in the Air Force during the Korean War in May 1952 through October 1953, Mr. Bray was employed with various companies, including Mitsubishi, Dow Badishe, Lowes, and most recently with Bryant Pharmacy, where he worked for the past 14 years delivering prescriptions.

Mr. Bray had a passion for serving his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, through his local church, Varennes Heights Baptist Church, where he and his wife, Irene, were members for 45 years. He was very active in church, which includes serving as a teacher, singing in the choir, deacon/elder board, etc. He also loved spending time with his family and coveted the time spent with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He enjoyed watching sports, playing golf and walking with his wife.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 3:30pm at Varennes Heights Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Kirt Mitchell and Rev. Wendell Rhodes. At the conclusion of the service, Mr. Bray’s Military service will be honored with Military Rites.

Visitation will be from 1pm – 3pm prior to the service on Saturday at the Church. A private burial service will be observed later.

Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory, South Chapel, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
