James ‘Jimmy’ Hurt, 87, of Anderson, SC, was called home to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
Born on July 31, 1937, he was the son of the late Emma T. Hurt and was married to his much beloved wife, the late Marlene W. Hurt for nearly 62 years. He worked at Cherokee Security for 27 years.
After he attended McCants Junior High School, he went on to serve in the US Army with the 101st Airborne. Jimmy served in Korea as a Corporal with a total of three years active duty and nine years in the reserves. He was also a Thirty Second Degree Mason, having previously attended Lodge 240.
Jimmy was a member of Bible Baptist Church and was previously a member at Macedonia Baptist Church at Fretwell Woods, Anderson. At Macedonia, he served as Choir Director and for many years he loved singing beside his wife who played the piano.
He is survived by his son, Barron Hurt of the home; sisters: Lorriane Strickland and Peggy Eaves (Ed); half-sister, Serena Whitmire; brother, Lee Hurt (Mary); sisters-in-law: Joyce Jennings and Kathy Craft; family caretakers, his niece and nephew, Crystal and Ray Whitaker; as well as many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is also predeceased by a sister, Marlene H. Thomason.
Services will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory at 2pm officiated by Pastor Ken Whitt. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Honors.
The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends prior to the service at the Mortuary on Monday from 12:30pm – 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, Rainey Hospice House and Palliative Care or Bible Baptist Church.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the ICU Teams at AnMed and his caretakers at Rainey Hospice House for the wonderful care they provided Jimmy.
Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
