Josephine Miller Blume January 28, 1938 - June 18, 2024

Date of Funeral

June 22, 2024

Josephine Miller Blume, widow of Roy William Blume, and the last surviving child of the late Alvis Walter Miller and Gertrude Latham Miller, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.

Born January 28, 1938, in Anderson County, she attended Gluck Mill Elementary School, McCants Junior High School and Hanna High School. She and Roy were married in 1954 after he returned from serving with the U.S. Army in the Korean War.

In 1965, Roy and Josie built a new brick home south of Anderson and raised their children a couple of hayfields distance from where they themselves grew up, first as neighbors and later as sweethearts, on a country road bordered by cotton fields in the Masters Store community. In the early years of their marriage, Josie worked as a sewing machine operator. Later, and until her retirement, she was a tax preparer for H&R Block. She was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church, where she was baptized in a white dress she made just for the occasion.

She played her guitar and sang Melba Montgomery and George Jones duets with her husband, and the two enjoyed nothing more than getting together with family and friends for music and cards. In her later years, after Roy’s death, she found solace in her back yard, tending her flowering plants beneath the shady oaks she and Roy planted. She loved her family unconditionally and cared deeply for her friends, but she also cherished found moments of solitude.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Lee, Walter, Clifford, James and Raymond Miller; and her sisters: Avis Govin and Elsie Blume. Sadly, she was also predeceased by a son, Don Walter Blume, and a grandson, C. Dakota Blume.

Survivors include her children: Roy William “Butch” Blume Jr. (Debbie), Deby Blume Jenkins, George Russell Blume, and Christopher Miller Blume; her grandchildren: Katherine Blume Moody (Josh), Amy Blume Grubbs (Ryan), Brian Jenkins (Becca), Travis Jenkins (Nina), Vanessa Blume, and Harley Blume; and several great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Dr. John Doster for his compassionate and skillful care for their mother over the last 20 years.

The funeral service will be held at 10am on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Flat Rock Baptist Church, Anderson, SC. A private burial will be held.

Visitation will be held at the church following the service.

The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory South Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
