Mart Tucker January 16, 1936 - July 25, 2026

Mart Tucker, 90, of Anderson, SC passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25 at the Rainey Hospice House of the Upstate after a lengthy, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born on January 16, 1936, in Greenville, SC he was the beloved son of the late Nellie Watson Tucker Adams and Mart Tucker.

Mart grew up with an extremely strong work ethic. He was the proud owner of Tucker’s Esso for many years in the 1960s, eventually retiring after numerous years with Hertz-Penske in 2001. Jim Sosebee himself can testify to Mart’s character, maybe viewed as a Bonus Dad during Jim’s formative years. Mart was an avid rockhound, he loved spending his spare time searching for and collecting various types of rocks & gems. He thoroughly thrived building his vast collections (treasures) as well as travelling throughout the great USA. He was an active member of Salem Baptist Church until his failing health prevented him from attending.

He was preceded in death by his mother Nellie Watson Tucker Adams, his father Mart Tucker, stepfather JC Adams, and brother Frank Tucker.

Mart’s gifts of love, patience, faith and devotion will live on through his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Gloria Tucker, daughters Debbie Cantrell and Becky Leonard (Grant), grandson Clay Stone (Tammy), great-grandson Kashton, brother George Tucker (Mary), and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mart’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Rainey Hospice House of the Upstate (1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621) or Salem Baptist Church (1325 Salem Church Road, Anderson, SC 29625).

The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
