Mildred Smith Barton, 92, of Anderson, SC, took the outstretched hand of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and went home to begin her stroll over heaven hand-in-hand with the love of her life, Carlisle, on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. What a beautiful reunion that must have been!
Born in Seneca, SC on November 26, 1931 to the late John J. and Macie Bearden Smith, Mildred was a seamstress for Jantzen in her 20’s and continued making and repairing clothes for herself and others for many years. She was also a published freelance writer, an avid reader, an amazing creative crafter, a prayer warrior, and a wife and mother that loved her family and the Lord with all her heart.
She was a long time member of the West Anderson Church of God, Anderson, SC where she volunteered for a few years and attended prior to declining health.
She leaves behind one daughter, Karen Barton Pless; one son, Brent Barton (Dottie); two grandsons, Brandon Barton and Matthew Barton; and two great-grandchildren, Serri Barton and Elias Barton.
In addition to her husband Carlisle C. Barton, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Nell Smith Vaughn, and brother-in-law Reuben F. Vaughn.
The family will be receiving friends at Asaville Baptist Church, Anderson, SC, on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 12:00 noon, followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Oconee Memorial Park in Seneca, SC at 2:30p.m.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory South Chapel.
