Mitchell Don Gibson, age 27, Starr SC, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016.

A fisherman threw his last net that night, cast his last line, got his last bite

A fisherman wet his last hook that night, tied his last knot, turned on his last light

Commercial Fisherman, Mitchell Don Gibson (Born Mitchell Collins) went home to fish with the Master of the Sea on March 13, 2016. Mitchell was born in Greenville, SC on April 5, 1988, went missing on Lake Richard B Russell on March 13, 2016 and there his body remained until it was recovered on October 27, 2016 by the heart and dedication of Gene and Sandy Ralston. Mitchell had the heart and soul of a fisherman, a hunter and good old country boy and over the years, would tell you that when it was time for him to go home to the Lord, he wanted to go while fishing or hunting in a tree stand.

Mitchell is survived by his wife, Leslie Gibson. A daughter, Kalaya Meadow Gibson, also known as Daddy’s little Gar Fish. His parents, Don and Angie Gibson. His siblings and their spouses, Billy and Crystal Gibson, Jerry and Kelly Johnson, Hoss and Melanie Collins, Alisha and Ben Turner. A lifelong friend that grew up with him as a brother from the time they were little boys, Ross Roach and a multitude of friends, extended family, a brotherhood of fisherman and boaters alike.

Mitchell was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charlie and Odean Gibson, James and Kathleen McCall, Horace and Ila Collins.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Jenny Pierce and her family for all of her dedication and hard work in helping to bring Mitchell home, there are Angels on earth and you have definitely earned your Halo. We would also like to thank Sanctuary of Praise Church, Gethsemane Baptist Church, Members of the Starr Community and surrounding communities for their continuing support to help bring Mitchell home. While we can’t list each and every one of you, please know that we thank you for your support, love, prayers and kindness each and every day.

Please join us for a Ceremony of Remembrance on Nov 12, 2016 at 12 noon at Calhoun Falls State Park at Day Use Area 2.
