Thomas Edward “Sunshine” Burriss passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 24, 2018, at the age of 91, having never spent one night of his life in a hospital.
There are few places where a man can live in such a caring community. Iva is that place. Thomas Edward spent his childhood plowing fields behind a mule on the farm in Iva that has been in the family for over 100 years. As a young man he enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean War. He was blessed to come back to the loving community of Iva where he was born and raised. Other than his working career of 36 years with Bahnson Service Company, the remainder of his long life was spent in a town that he loved. Iva, where family are your neighbors, and your neighbors are your family.
He is survived by his children: Greg Burriss, Carolyn Stuart and Tab Burriss and his sister: Jettie Francis Nelson of Starr, SC.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 27th at the Sosebee Mortuary Iva Chapel.
