Tom Whelchel, 70, of Anderson, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, at Brushy Creek Post Acute in Greer, SC.
Born in Columbia, SC, on September 24, 1955, Tom was the beloved son of the late W.T. Whelchel and Evelyn Howard Whelchel.
Tom proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before beginning a successful 21-year career with Owens Corning Fiberglass. After retiring, he continued his hardworking spirit by becoming a small business owner. Tom was a devoted family man who deeply loved those closest to him. A passionate Atlanta Braves fan and avid golfer, he found joy both in the game and in the friendships it brought.
Throughout his life, Tom faced several health challenges with remarkable courage and determination, inspiring everyone who knew him with his strength and perseverance. Above all, his greatest accomplishments were his children, who were his pride, joy, and lasting legacy.
He is survived by his children, Nissee Brown (Al), Adam Whelchel (Michelle), Blake Whelchel, and Clay Whelchel (Dami); his brother Donnie Whelchel (Tammy); and his sister Robin Davis (Chris). Tom was also blessed with grandchildren Chris, Forrest, Jake, Ashlyn, Shelby, Seth, Alyssa, and Brayden; as well as eight great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his father, mother, and infant brother, Larry Dale.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory, 3219 S Main St, Anderson, SC 29624.
The family will be at their respective homes.
Tom will be remembered for his loyalty, sense of humor, strength, and the deep love he shared with his family and friends. His spirit lives on in the lives of those he touched.
