Ret. T/Sgt. William (Gene) (Bill) Fields, husband of 62 years to Martha Sheriff Fields of Belton, passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Rainey Hospice House surrounded by his family.

Born on the 3rd of January 1935 to the late Selma Fields in Williamston, he served in the US Airforce for 20 years as a crash control fireman, doing tours in Japan, Iceland, Guam, Philippines, Thailand, Korea, and Vietnam. He also retired from BASF after 26 years. He was also a member of VFW Post 5996, as well as a Master Mason member of Masonic Lodge 403 in Belton.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a son: Robert Christopher “Chris” Fields and a brother: George Essel Cross.

He is survived by his wife, as well as sons: Danny Fields (Debbie) of Belton, Mike Fields (Karen) of Belton, daughter: Martha Gail Nicholson (Johnny) of Belton, 6 grandchildren: Shawn Fields of Kentucky, Gene Fields of Texas, Shane Fields of Belton, Corey Wheeler of Honea Path, Brian Fields of Pelzer, Crystal Wheeler Brown of Anderson, 8 great-grandchildren and a loving pet Tippy.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Sosebee Mortuary South Chapel from 6pm to 8pm.

Funeral services will be at the Mortuary on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at 2pm and will be officiated by Reverend Mike Hanley. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories in Belton with full Military Rites.
