Elton Dale Herndon “Shorty”, 63, of Iva SC, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
Born in Jacksonville, Fl, on November 28, 1962, he was the son of the late James Shelly “Dinky” Herndon and the late Betty Faye Thomas. He was an avid carpenter and owner of Ty’s Roofing and attended Gethsemane Baptist Temple. Shorty loved spending time with his family, his grandchildren and his nephews. He was very comical, quick-witted and always loved making you smile.
He is survived by his sons: James Wesley Herndon and James Douglas Tyler Herndon (Abbey); brothers: Jimmy Herndon and Eddie Herndon (Donna); sister: Brenda Johnson; grandchildren: Adriana Shelton (Dylan), Briana Herndon (Braxton), Juliana Herndon, Landon Herndon and Tinslee Herndon; as well as his great-grandchildren: Emory Shelton, Ella Shelton and Lakelynn Patterson.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister: Judy Wilson.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family will be at the home of James Tyler Herndon at 569 Suttles Road Iva SC 29655.
The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
