Alton Oscar Owens, 86, of Belton, SC, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at his residence.
Born in Hart County, GA on July 22, 1938, he was the son of the late Henry Oscar Owens, Emily Cantrell Carpenter and was raised by his stepfather, the late Luther Carpenter. Alton’s first love was the Lord, and he was known as a prayer warrior and was a charter member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple and in later years attended Dorchester Baptist Church with his wife, Margaret. He was a skilled repairman, had the ability to fix anything, Alton was a Gideon with a lifetime membership and his greatest work above all was spreading the Lord’s word.
He is survived by his wife: Margaret Crowe Owens; his son: Alton “Scott” Owens (Lisa); brother: Donnie Carpenter (Sandy); sister: Carol Mize (Larry) and Janet Dove (Doug); grandchildren: Daniel Turner (Ramey), David Turner (Chasity), Joel Owens, Kaleb Saxon and Matthew Saxon; great-grandchildren: Maddy, Aubree and Mozie Saxon. Alton is also survived by his wife, Margaret’s children and grandchildren who has been a blessing to him.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a daughter: Mary Darlene Brogden; brothers: Mitchell Carpenter, Danny Carpenter and Bobby Carpenter; sisters: Linda Wigley and Evelyn Haygood.
A funeral service will be held at Gethsemane Baptist Temple, 6116 SC-81, Starr, SC 29684, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 11am with Rev. Sam Duncan officiating. A private burial at Crossroads Baptist Church in Hart County, GA will be held following the service.
Visitation will take place from 6pm to 7pm on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory, 3219 S. Main St Ext, Anderson, SC.
The family will be at the residence.
