Barbara Jean Powell Thomas, 84, of Iva, SC, wife of Earl Thomas, passed peacefully at her home on Tuesday, September 27, 2022.

Born on February 12, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Malon and Flossie Powell. Barbara was a loving mother and devoted grandmother.  She was known for her generosity, her compassion, and above all, her faith.  She was one of the founding members of the Lowndesville Pentecostal Holiness Church and one of its most faithful servants.

Her family knew her not only for her love and support but for her humor.  She was always there for a quick joke or an encouraging word.  She may have been busy with life’s other responsibilities but was never too busy to have a good Southern home-cooked meal for her family every Sunday afternoon.  She was happiest at her home, at the lake, among her beautiful flowers with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson nearby.  She is now at peace with her Heavenly Father but will be missed and remembered fondly by all.

In addition to her husband, Barbara was mother to Terry McMullan (Wayne), and Jimmy Thomas (Cathy), grandmother to Candace (Jarett) Stone, Laura Beth (Alex) Smith, CJ Thomas and Marissa Thomas and great-grandmother to Ryder Stone.  She is also survived by her sisters:  Linda McCall of Calhoun Falls, Peggy Yeargin of Lowndesville, and her brother, Ray Powell of Iva.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by sisters: Mary Frances Powell, Glenda Powell, Elease “Sis” McMahan, and brothers:  William “Bud” Powell, and J.W. “Dub” Powell.

Graveside services will be held at 2pm on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Hwy 72, Abbeville, SC officiated by Pastor Scotty Willoughby.

Memorials made be made to Lowndesville Pentecostal Holiness Church, PO Box 69, Lowndesville, SC 29659.

Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory, South Chapel, is assisting the family.

Graveside services will be held at 2pm on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Hwy 72, Abbeville, SC officiated by Pastor Scotty Willoughby.
