Charles Edward Cerney Jr, 64, of Belton SC, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023, in Honea Path SC.
He was born on November 18, 1958, in Belle Fourche, SD: he was the son of Charles T. Cerney Sr and Leona (Bossert) Cerney.
Charles was raised just outside of Fruitdale, SD on a small farm. He grew up there while attending Fruitdale Country school through the 5th grade and finished grade school in Belle Fourche. Many a long bus ride.
He attended Belle Fourche High School, along the way he participated in several sports. Football and track, but Basketball was his passion. He played from as soon as he could dribble out on the farm dirt court with hoop up on the garage through his sophomore year in high school. Very good and very passionate.
Charles also had a passion for farming, tractors, machinery. He worked for various farmers throughout his young adulthood. Asa Queen was one of those gentlemen and not only did he work hard but played hard as well. Asa had a “Snooker” table set up in one of the farm shops and would always challenge Charles to a game here and there. Charles took it easy until there was money on the line and then would blow Asa away. Like many folks, Charles always had a good demeanor and got along with nearly everyone.
He was a hard-working roofer by trade, enjoyed golfing and was a Clemson Football fan.
In his adult life, He took a wife Sheri and together they raised 4 grand kids. Each of those Grandkids will gladly say “He was there for all of us, he was our best friend and our support.”
He is survived by his brother: Micheal Cerney, Sister Deb (Dennis) Wattier, Sister Luanne (Tom) Raiche, Sister Cathy Cerney; grandchildren: Landon Schwoyer, Bryson Schwoyer, Haley Ward, Kylie Ward (Ethan Rudder); great-grandson: Keegan Ward; stepdaughter: Jessecca Mizzles and his loving friends.
In addition to his parents & Brother David, he is predeceased by his soul mate: Sheri St Lewis and her mother: Virginia Stewart.
A funeral service will be held at Sosebee Mortuary South Chapel on Friday, March 3, 2023, at 5pm.
Visitation will be held prior to the service at the South Chapel on Friday, March 3, 2023, from 4pm to 5pm.
