Fred James Wicker, 87, of Anderson, SC passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Rainey Hospice House.
Born on May 29, 1929 in Anderson, SC where he was raised in the home of his grandparents, the late Samuel Eli and Mattie Wicker, and his mother the late Annie Wicker Porter. He was also the husband of the late Sarah Cash Wicker. He was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church and worked 40 plus years at Orr Lyons Mill. He enjoyed working on cars in his free time. He also served in the US Army.
He is survived by his son: Jeff Long (Jane); daughters: Fredda Lasater (Don), Ava W Bowen (Dan), and Phyllis Grant (Eddie); grandchildren: Leigh Strickland, Dana B Downs, Lacey Bowen, Katrina McLean, and Colt Grant; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a number of loving nieces and nephews.
He is also predeceased by eight brothers and two sisters.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 2pm at Sosebee Mortuary, Downtown Chapel and will be officiated by Reverend Boyce Whitman and Reverend Ken Collins. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1pm to 2pm at the mortuary. Burial will follow at MJ Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery with Military Rites.
