Frederick Hayes Cone, III went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, November 21, 2018.

Born on September 25, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland he was the son to the late Frederick Hayes Cone Jr and Claire Cartwright Cone, of New York, NY. He was raised in Mariemont, a suburb of Cincinnati, OH and was a gifted athlete who excelled in every sport he ever played.

Hayes graduated from Mariemont High School and then attended Clemson University in Clemson, SC. He had a double major from Clemson in Mathematics and Metallurgical Engineering. His Masters from Clemson was in Industrial Management. He also earned a law degree from Fordham Law School in New York, NY, where he was Law Review, top of his class, and passed the notoriously difficult New York Bar Exam on his first try in 1977.

He spent his career with Union Carbide Corporation in New York, NY and Danbury, CT. He began in Purchasing when Union Carbide Corporation was drilling offshore for oil. Hayes travelled all over the world making sure that supplies arrived in the correct order for the proper drilling. Once he received his law degree, he spent the rest of his career in Union Carbide’s Law Department, specializing in contracts. He retired some years ago to Clemson, SC where he was an avid supporter of Clemson athletics, particularly football.

On October 25, 1969, Hayes and Cherie Ann Ellis were married in Hot Springs, AR. After an amicable divorce, they remained friends until his passing.
Hayes was faithful to his Lord Jesus Christ and to his church, Bible Baptist Church of Anderson, SC and was devoted to both. He loved the Word of God and took meticulous notes of his Pastor’s messages as long as he was able. He will be greatly missed by his friends and fellow church members. He was a true gentleman.

Hayes was the last remaining member of his immediate family.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at 3pm at Bible Baptist Church.
