Gary Steven Hanks, 62, of Starr, SC, entered into his Heavenly Home on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at the Callie and John Rainey Hospice House.

Born on August 5, 1960, in Oconee, SC, he was the son to Martha Tucker Hanks and the late Larry Reece Hanks. Gary was a graduate of McDuffie High School where he exceled in all types of sports especially in the game of baseball.  He attended Gethsemane Baptist Temple and recently retired after working all his life as a talented carpenter.  He had many close mentors throughout his working career and cherished their friendship daily.  He was a sports enthusiast of all kinds, especially for his favorite team, the Clemson Tigers.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brothers: Kenneth, Mark, Russell and Jeffrey Hanks; and his beloved sister: Deborah Hanks Latham (Leonard).  As well as all his Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, two great nephews, many close friends too numerous to name and his beloved dog, Piper, all whom he loved and cherished every minute spent with.

In addition to his father, he is predeceased by his grandparents: James Chalmer and Inez Lena Tucker, Alexander “Buck” Hanks, and Merrie Barkley Breazle.

Services will be held at Gethsemane Baptist Temple on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 12pm officiated by Rev. Sam Duncan.  The family will hold a private burial.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church on Friday from 11am – 12pm.

Flowers are accepted.  Memorial may be made in his memory to the Cancer Association of Anderson, 215 E. Calhoun Street, Anderson, SC 29621, or Anderson County P.A.W.S., 1320 US 29, Anderson, SC 29626.

The family is at the home and wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at 5 Center, the ICU at AnMed Health Medical Center, and Rainey Hospice House.

Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory, South Chapel, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
