Joe E. Atkin, 88, of Honea Path, SC passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at Rainey Hospice House.
Born on August 27, 1931 in Honea Path, SC he was the son of the late RA and Ethel Atkin and the husband of 68 years to Polly Pruitt Atkin. Joe was a veteran of the US Marine Corps having served in the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter: Jan Howell (Rayford); grandchildren: Joie Lynn Baldwin (Jamie), Joseph Atkin, and Justin Atkin (Sarah); great-grandson: Brady Baldwin “Pa Joe’s Buddy”; and several special nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son: Joe Anthony “Joey” Atkin; and brothers: Allen, Walter, Robert, and James William “Billy” Atkin.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30pm on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Mount Bethel Baptist Church and will be officiated by Rev. Sam Duncan and Pastor Jake Anderson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Rites.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2pm – 3:30, at the church.
The family will be at the home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Mount Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund 2603 Due West Highway Belton, SC 29627.
Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory, South Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
