Joretta E. Black, 87, the daughter of the late Ozzie and Bernice Cooper, passed away December 10, 2019.

Jo, as all knew her, graduated from Rollins College and taught elementary school for many years, leaving a positive impression on many a child.   She was known for her high spirit and undying loyalty to her family and friends. She was truly one of a kind and lived life her way.  She was a strong, independent woman way before her time.  No doubt that she left her “dash” on this world.

She is survived by her daughters: Debra B. Cheney (Rob) and Teresa Lynn Sanders (Jim); son: Jack Marcus Black (Margie); brother: Everette Cooper; sisters: Cheryl Hood and Ola Jane Hooper; grandchildren: Ryan P. Coyle (Meagan), Will Roberts, II, Joseph M. Roberts, Susanne Sanders Glasser (Tyson), Daniel Sanders, Curtis Black; great grandchildren: Arianna, Brianna, Avery, Conner and Sanders, and her very loving and devoted companion of 40 years, Thomas R. Smith, Thomas R. Smith, Jr. (Maryella) and granddaughter Alexandra Adamson.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jack M. Black. She was devoted to all of her siblings and grieved every day for those that she had lost; Sara Davis, Harris Dean Cooper, Ozzie Ray Cooper, Beth Ann Cooper and David G Cooper.

The family would like to give a special thank you to her doctor, Dr. McCullar and nurses (Brenda and Barbara) over the past several years and to her caretakers:  Kymm Zecman, who was her guardian angel, Rogene Crowell and Lisa Chadwick.  We are forever grateful for your love, support and care.

A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
