Raymond Charles Murphy, Sr., 73, of Anderson, SC, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 20, 2015.
Formally of Millbrook, NY, Ray was born on May 24, 1942 in Sharon, CT. He was the youngest of ten born to the late John and Flora Belle Murphy. He married Bonney Salcito in July 1961 and was happily married for 50 years until her death in July 2011. He worked for over 20 years for Love/Effron Oil Company in Poughkeepsie, NY before moving to SC.
He is survived by his children: Ray Charles Murphy, Jr. and wife Tonya, of Seneca, SC; Milinda Murphy and companion Linda Pulver of Dover Plains, NY; and Louis Murphy and wife Amie, of Belton, SC; grandchildren: Jeremy Murphy, currently serving in Iraq, Amber Murphy, Victoria Murphy, Joshua Fields, and Kaleb Rutledge; great-grandchildren: Hanna Murphy, Molly Ellis, Alissa Murphy, Fiona Schoonbeck, and Kaylee Laduke; and sisters: Helen Riley of Sharon, CT, and Margaret Murphy of Boston, MA.
In addition to his parents and wife; he is also predeceased by brothers: Ed, Jack, and Don Murphy; and sisters: Evelyn Morrison, Carolyn Guptill, Flora Belle Willeg, and Bertha Proper.
Ray loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was known to many children in the community as Santa Claus. Ray served as a mason and leaves behind many great friends.
A celebration of this great man will be held at 3pm on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Sosebee Mortuary, South Chapel. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 2pm-3pm on Wednesday at the Mortuary.
