Thomas “Tommy” Edward Hayes August 30, 1949 - September 4, 2023

Thomas “Tommy” Edward Hayes, 74, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Monday September 4, 2023, at AnMed Medical Center.

Born on August 30, 1949, in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Mack Watson Hayes Jr and Clara Hatcher Hayes. He was a former employee of BASF. Thomas was a SGT in the US Army with the 101st Airborne Division, where he earned the National Defense Medal, Parachute Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device and the Army Commendation Medal.

He is survived by his wife: Vera M. Hayes; sons: Sandy Hayes (Meredith), Dusty Hayes (Mary), and Watson Hayes; sister: Arleane Gales (Stephen); grandchildren: Kristen Savage (Jeff), Mason Hart, and Rebecca Ward; great-grandchild: Jonathan Henry Savage; nephew: Rankin Chapman (Lacie); great niece: Daegan Chapman; many cousins, special friends, and his 101st Airborne Brothers.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his grandparents: Cleo David Hatcher Sr. and Lona McClain Hatcher

A graveside service will be held at Hayes Family Cemetery, 401 Charles Beaty Rd Iva, SC, on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 3pm with Pastor Allen McConnell and Pastor David McConnell officiating. Burial will follow.

The family will be at 401 Charles Beaty Rd Iva, SC.

The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory South Chapel is assisting the family.
