William Allen Billings, 81, of Anderson SC, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at AnMed Medical Center.
Allen was born in Starr, South Carolina, on August 15, 1944, to the late William and Sadie Billings. He dedicated his adult life to public service, starting as a firefighter with the Homeland Park Fire Department for many years. In 1974, he furthered his career by joining the Anderson County Fire Headquarters as a dispatcher and fire apparatus mechanic. As the county’s fire service expanded, Allen advanced to roles including Fire Investigator, Fire Code Enforcement officer, and Fire Marshal. After 35 years of committed service, he retired from his distinguished career.
His dedication, knowledge and significant contributions to the Anderson County Fire Service set a high standard that will be challenging to match. He will be sincerely missed.
Allen is survived by his wife of 63 years, Glinda F. Billings; son: Dwayne Billings (Vanessa); daughter: Deborah Jefferson (Randall); grandchildren: Dara Compton (Jay), Kayla Jefferson, Jennifer Young, and Stephanie Billings; great-grandchildren: Samantha Compton, Mackenzie Compton, Jayden Compton, Abbie Fernandez, Aleigha Foster, Issabella Foster, Kylee Foster, Brady McGinnis, Lily Grace McGinnis and Johley McGinnis.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a brother: Jerry Billings, and a sister: Mildred Billings.
Visitation will be held from 12pm to 2pm on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory.
The funeral service will follow at 2pm with Pastor Steve Silvey officiating. Burial will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Firefighter Honors.
The family will be at the home.
The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory, 3219 S Main St Ext, Anderson SC 29624, is assisting the family with arrangements.
