The Faulkner family is saddened to announce that, Detra Jerrean Faulkner, 55, of Starr, SC, died after a short, but fierce battle with cancer on Saturday, October 8, 2022.
Detra was born on January 13th, 1967, the daughter of the late Nyoka Sprouse and Charles O’Bryant. She graduated from Athens Technical College and worked for many years in Athens, GA for Scott, Wells and McElwee, PC as a paralegal before moving to Anderson. Here, she finished her career as a paralegal and office manager at Harbin & Burnett, LLP.
Detra was a founding member of the Board of Directors for Freedom from Bondage, Inc., which was the first recovery residence for women in the Athens, GA area. FFB started out as a nonprofit created by a small group of women who saw a need for recovery centers that were just for women. They started with one house holding a few women and have grown to ten houses now helping fifty-six women. Detra was a sponsor to countless women and a friend of Bill W for almost 21 years.
She will live on in the many lives she has touched, especially in the lives her family including her husband, Jim Faulkner, of Starr, SC; daughter, Nikki Lenzen, of Nashville, TN; son, Terrell “Scooter” Hathcock, Jr. of Franklin Springs, GA; Step-son: Chris Faulkner (Devin); seven grandchildren; sister, Crystal O’Dillon; brothers: Keith, Jeff, and Charles “Bubba” O’Bryant; as well as, many close friends and numerous people she helped and guided throughout her life.
A memorial service will be held at Sosebee Mortuary, South Chapel, on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 4pm.
Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory, South Chapel, is assisting the family.
