Gerald H. Banister, 92, of Starr SC, passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Richard Campbell Veterans Home.

Born on December 22, 1929, in Belton, SC, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Ellen Hand Banister and the husband of 71 years to Carolyn S. Banister.

Gerald was a retired letter carrier with the US Postal Service, served in the US Army and was a member of the Word Tabernacle.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: David Banister (Debra) and Cindy Rousey (James); brothers: Harold Banister (Louise), Ray Banister (Ruby Lee); Al Bannister (Wanda) and Doyle Bannister (Linda); grandchildren: Travis Rousey (Jamie), Keri Rousey, Elle Banister; great grandchild: Greyson Rousey; special friends: Bebo and Tenna Bedenbaugh and the caregivers at Richland Campbell Veterans Nursing Home and lifelong friend: Malcolm Haynie.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother Rex Bannister (Jeannie).

A funeral service will be held at Word Tabernacle on Friday, February 18, 2022, at 2pm with Pastor Gene Williams and Pastor Joe Greene officiating. Burial will follow at South Lawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.

Visitation will be held prior to the service at the church from 12pm to 2pm.

Flowers are optional, but memorials can be made to the Anderson County Alzheimer’s Association at 4124 Clemson Blvd, Suit L, Anderson, SC, 29621.

The family will be at their respective homes.

The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory South Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
