Beloved Pastor and Baptist Statesman, Dr. Michael K. Moore transferred to heaven September 7, 2022 as a result of complications of Multiple Meyloma (cancer of the bone marrow).
Dr. Moore was born in Seneca, SC to Arshall and Irene Stancil Moore March 26, 1943.
Following service to his country in the US Navy 1961-1965, he became a Christian. He answered God’s call and entered the ministry in 1967. He pastored six churches ranging in size from fifty to two thousand in membership. He served two Baptist Associations as Director of Missions for a total of eleven years. Recognized as an insightful Bible preacher and teacher, he was privileged to preach in over 300 revivals and crusades in the US and overseas.
Michael was a man of reflection and deep contemplative thought. With a sense of humor second to none, his expertise as a wordsmith was legendary. His life touched thousands and he was a personal mentor to thousands of young and fellow ministers.
Dr. Moore served his Baptist Family as a member of the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention for two terms and was given a special recognition award. He also served the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina as a member of the Board of Directors as well as in other capacities.
He earned undergraduate degrees from Anderson University, Anderson, SC; Furman University, Greenville, SC; earned the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry Degrees from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judith K. Smith Moore. Son Wesley and his wife Julie; their children Haley, Kenley, Holly and Mason and Morgan Williams. Daughter Laurie and her husband Lee Acree and their daughter Emma Ruth.
Michael and Judith loved adventure and traveled to all the 50 states and 40 countries overseas. He played several musical instruments and enjoyed reading history and visiting historical sites.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, September 11 at Kure Beach First Baptist Church at 3:00pm with visitation at 2:00pm.
Dr. Moore devoted his life to spreading the Gospel. One of his favorite ways was through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Double Springs Baptist Church, 550 Double Springs Rd, Townville, SC 29689, at 3pm.
The Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory South Chapel is assisting the family with local arrangements.
